DHL Express keeps Scotland moving

From exam papers to court manuscripts, blood samples to TV news reels, ensuring that Scotland’s public services run smoothly needs effective, efficient logistic solutions. DHL Express UK, the market leader in local and international logistics, has recently been appointed by Procurement Scotland as the main courier services provider for Scottish public sector organisations. This will result in significant savings for the public sector in Scotland at a time when budget constraints are paramount.

DHL’s service will ensure that important and often life-changing deliveries are made safely and on time. This includes DHL couriers making collections from the main Glasgow blood bank to Dumfries Royal Infirmary, and as of 1st October deliveries from over 80 sites around the Grampian region are being delivered to labs in Aberdeen to ensure they can operate more efficiently.

DHL has already proven its ability to react quickly when Historic Scotland required a same day delivery of news reels to a TV studio in time for the news bulletins. This ensured that the work of Historic Scotland received high-profile national recognition across Scotland.

With the Scottish public sector focused on driving down overheads, without compromising frontline services, DHL was appointed following a review of all courier contracts to centralised services under a Procurement Framework Agreement. The contract sees DHL provide courier services for a wide range of organizations, including same day, overnight and international deliveries for central government, local government, universities and colleges, the fire service, police force, charities and the NHS, at pre-agreed rates.

DHL’s high level of security will also see couriers delivering overnight shipments of court manuscripts for the Scottish Court Services and carrying out a range of services for the Scottish Prison Services.

Prior to winning the contract in a competitive tender process, DHL held several Scottish Government courier contracts, including the transportation of election ballot boxes which require high levels of security as well as speed of delivery.

With over 40 years’ experience, 25 sites across Scotland and a new international hub in Edinburgh, DHL has an established presence in the area – bringing depth of local knowledge, unrivalled infrastructure and a global network to meet the public sector’s delivery needs.

Manish Joshi, Managing Director, Same Day for DHL Express UK, says: “This is a very important time for the Scottish public sector to be reviewing its partners to ensure its getting the most cost effective and efficient service. We are very proud to be able to provide a service that delivers significant cost savings without compromising quality of service.”
