Red Bull Racing scores a hat trick

Mark Webber grabs his sixth Fastest Lap of the season and with it the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award

Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber races to his 6th Fastest Lap in Abu Dhabi.

With the 2011 Drivers’ World Championship and the 2011 Constructors’ Championship firmly in grip, team Red Bull Racing scored a hat trick on Sunday at the 2011 Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when driver Mark Webber grabbed his sixth Fastest Lap of the year and with it the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap trophy.

Despite teammate Sebastian Vettel’s early retirement in the second corner of the race, the Yas Marina Circuit is certainly a team Red Bull favorite. Last year Vettel secured his first Drivers’ World Championship there. This year, his teammate Mark Webber ripped up the track to round off what has been undoubtedly Red Bull’s year.

Although the Australian was unable to top the podium in the 2011 season, he’s demonstrated a consistency throughout the year nearly second to none: he’s finished every race in the top five save the Italian Grand Prix where a collision with Ferrari driver Felipe Massa forced him to limp to the finish line at the back of the pack. Webber has earned the right to drown himself and cheering fans in champagne on the winner’s podium no less than nine times this year, missing that chance by only nanoseconds six other times. Need we say more?

This consistent speed and precision is precisely what the DHL Fastest Lap Award aims to showcase and honor. At speeds in excess of 300 km/h (190 mph), every Formula 1 driver is fast, but the race winner is not always the pilot who navigated the perfect – and thereby fastest – lap. Webber’s dependable driving has shown us time and again this year that he is the fastest man on the track.

DHL will be proud to present Mark Webber with the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap trophy in less than two weeks at the final Grand Prix of the season in Sao Pãulo, Brazil.

Congratulations Mark!
