DHL presents 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Trophy to Mark Webber

At a special handover ceremony in Sao Paolo on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix, DHL honored the Red Bull driver for racing the most Fastest Laps in the 2011 season.

Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber receives the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award from Joakim Thrane, DHL Express Brazil Country Manager, Christian Danner, DHL F1 Expert and former Formula 1 driver.

Two weeks ago at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull Racing-Renault driver Mark Webber left no doubt that he was consistently the fastest man on the racetrack in the 2011 Formula 1TM season. This weekend in Sao Paolo, on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix, DHL presented the Australian with the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award.

The award was handed over by Joakim Thrane, Country Manager, DHL Express Brazil, and Christian Danner the former Formula 1 driver and DHL’s F1 Expert, at a special handover ceremony on Friday. “The DHL Fastest Lap Award represents speed and excellence, the two values which have a strong resonance with DHL,” said Thrane. “Mark Webber is a true international specialist, delivering speed across the globe. His achievement in winning the award also shows that no team can be successful without the hard work and commitment of its individual team members, which is very important to us as the international specialists. We’d like to thank Mark for his role in making Formula 1 such an exciting spectacle in 2011 and congratulate him on winning the DHL Fastest Lap Award for 2011.”

This is the first time that Webber won the award, having finished runner-up in 2009.

At the time Mark received his Fastest Lap trophy on Friday, he had raced six Fastest Laps this season. No one else was even close. And to put an exclamation point on his consistently high performance in 2011, Webber not only recorded his seventh Fastest Lap this weekend in Brazil, but also took the checkered flag – his first win of the season.

Mark Webber demonstrated a consistency throughout the year nearly second to none: he finished every race in the top five save the Italian Grand Prix, and he earned a spot on the winner’s podium no less than ten times.

This consistent speed and high performance is precisely what the DHL Fastest Lap Award aims to showcase and honor. At speed in excess of 300 km/h (190 mph), every Formula 1 driver is fast, but the race winner is not always the pilot who navigates the perfect – and thereby fastest – lap. Webber’s dependable driving showed us time and again this year that he was, in fact, the fastest man on the track.

DHL Express CEO Ken Allen couldn’t be happier with the results of the race for the 2011 Fastest Lap Award. “The fastest lap in a race is always a challenge. This is the result of speed, precision and teamwork. Winning the DHL Fastest Lap Trophy adds continuity and reliability to this.
