Berlin, Berlin!

Still feeling its way around as Germany’s fashion capital, Berlin celebrated its tenth season as host to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week with its most packed schedule yet.

With more than 70 shows in four days, Berlin bustled with fashion in January, bringing the city out of its post-Christmas doldrums with a fantastic display of color and style. Big name German design was on display at both the Hugo Boss and Michael Michalsky shows.

Berlin-based label Kaviar Gauche likewise presented a new bridal collection, thinly veiled and razor sharp, that’s left tongues wagging.

Also on tap at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin were designers from emerging style capitals, including a show featuring Romanian designers and one highlighting fashion from the Baltic States. One of the top billings for the week came in the form of Wang Yutao, a mens’ and womenswear designer well known in China but whose sophisticated neutral-toned gowns and suits were featured in Germany for the first time.

Always looking for new ways to support smaller local designers, IMG Fashion, the event’s coordinators, introduced a unique concept to the event: the Studio show. In lieu of a catwalk, the studio showcases a singular designer’s collection in a smaller room, allowing up to 200 guests to touch-and-feel the garments, letting potential buyers get a feel for the texture and quality of the samples on display.

The up-close-and-personal look is just one of the ways Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin hopes to make the city a must-stop on the fashion circuit. For more on DHL’s role in Fashion Week events around the world, take a look at our Facebook page.
