Cardboard Couture at NYFW

Announcing the winners of DHL's competition with LIM College this season to create “couture” made entirely of packaging materials.

Getting your creations seen by Fashion Week attendees is a dream of design students everywhere – and DHL's making it happen for two Lim College students.

As Official Logistics Partner of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week events around the globe, DHL is well aware of the difficulties up-and-coming designers face in getting their work out on display. That's why we happily hosted a competition for LIM College visual merchandising students to get their “cardboard couture” out in front of audience members at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York when it opens February 9.

Under the direction of Visual Merchandising Chair Eric Feigenbaum and award-winning designer and Associate Chair Marjorie Lee Woo, four LIM College students transformed DHL branded packing and shipping materials into couture wear. Bubble wrap, packing tape and cardboard morphed into gowns, cocktail dresses, hats and even an airplane fascinator.

When the public votes were tallied, Carinne Cusanelli and Vinessa Soluri came out on top – and won the chance to have their unique dresses featured at the DHL space in the Event Lobby during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Damrosch Park. Emily Acle and Samantha Scopo submitted equally interesting hand-crafted gowns well worth a second look.

Congrats, ladies! Looking forward to seeing your collections soon! You can see more photos from the contest here.
