DHL launches DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS

DHL, the world's leading express company, today launched DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS in Japan to provide express import and export transportation of time-sensitive medicines, clinical supplies and specimens during the clinical trial phase of new medicines. This is in response to the growing number of clinical trials taking place globally as Japanese pharmaceutical companies work to develop new medicines for overseas markets.
The signature feature of DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS is time definite and secure shipment of urgently needed clinical supplies via highly flexible methods to meet virtually all conceivable transport needs of customers worldwide. DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS is a value-added, door-to-door express transport service in which customer needs are handled in an integrated manner by experienced staff dedicated full-time to the transportation of investigational new drugs (INDs).
DHL's transport experts not only understand the special requirements of clinical supplies, they are also thoroughly versed in the varying customs-clearance procedures and conditions of countries worldwide. DHL Japan Representative Director/President Taketo Yamakawa, said, "As the world's second largest pharmaceutical market, Japan will continue to not only globalize, but increase the demand for international transport in this industry. DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS, now available in more than 50 countries for life sciences and healthcare, has great potential to help customers in Japan enhance their competitiveness by streamlining operational processes and costs.
" At the same time, clinical trials in general are becoming increasingly globalized, which is raising the need for cross-border, door-to-door express transport. In particular, the demand for specialized transportation has been heightened by increasingly stringent requirements under the Good Clinical Practice standards for clinical testing of pharmaceuticals. These factors, as well as the heightening demand for highly specialized knowledge and supply chain solutions for logistics in the clinical trial business, led to the introduction of DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS in Japan. DHL MEDICAL EXPRESS, launched globally in June 2009, is now available in more than 50 countries in Asia, Europe and the Americas.
