DHL UK Foundation named top charity

On Thursday 30 June, at an award ceremony in London, the DHL UK Foundation was announced as the winner of the Corporate Foundation award, in the first ever Business Charity Awards.

The aim of the awards, launched this year by Third Sector (the main voluntary sector magazine) and the Institute of Fundraising, is to recognise the contribution made to charity work and the voluntary sector by the UK business community and to spread knowledge of good practice and new ideas in business-charity partnerships. Household-name companies such as First Direct, Vodafone and Sky featured on the shortlist for thirteen categories.  Each entry was assessed by an independent panel of judges with skills and experience relevant to the category.

“To be named as the winning Foundation is amazing,” comments Helen Dent, Foundation manager. “This recognises the strength of our programmes and the benefits we bring to the voluntary sector.” “We could not do our work without the support of the UK businesses of DHL and the enthusiasm and skills of individual employees.  So my thanks goes out to the army of DHL fundraisers and volunteers.” Andrews Charitable Trust, Hilton in the Community, Vodafone UK and Zurich Community Trust UK were named as runners up.

Entry was open to all companies that operate in the UK and work in partnership with registered charities, not-for-profit organisations, social enterprises and campaigning groups. Work completed during the period 1 July 2008 to 31 January 2010 was eligible to enter.

Working hand in hand with DHL employees, the DHL UK Foundation funds activities and programmes which help children and young people achieve their full potential. The Foundation is an independent charity, founded in 1988, and encourages all DHL employees to get involved in the communities in which they live and work, through fundraising and volunteering.
