DHL helps to deliver humanitarian supplies to Russian wildfire victims

In view of the consequences of the devastating wildfires in Russia, local DHL employees provided their active support in delivering essential goods such as clothes, food, household items and stationery to the affected people.
The pro-bono initiative by DHL Express Russia also included the collection of goods as well as a fund raising activity to support the purchase of fire fighting equipment and protective clothing for volunteers helping to fight the fires.
"In the event of a natural disaster, efficient logistics is an important factor to support those who are affected. I am glad that we could do our share and transport essential goods to people in need in the areas hit by the devastating fires," said Rainer Wend, Executive Vice President Public Policy and Responsibility.
The first DHL truck with humanitarian supplies left Saint Petersburg on 12th of August heading South and East of Moscow to the cities of Ryazan, Nizhniy Novgorod and Voronezh. On 19th of August, DHL transported respiratory systems from Samara to Saransk South of Moscow and further humanitarian aid to the city of Vladimir East of the capital. Overall, DHL participated in the delivery of 40 tons of clothes, food household goods and sanitary items.
In parallel DHL employees collected warm clothing, toys and stationery for children in preparation of the new school year starting on September 1st. Within three days the employees packed a total of 15 boxes at the DHL branch in Yekaterinburg and prepared them for transfer to the Sverdlovsk regional department of the Russian Red Cross for further distribution and raised money to support the purchase of fire fighting equipment and protective clothing for the volunteers helping to fight fires in the Meschersky and Oksky Nature Reserves.
