Spreading Christmas Cheer with the Gewandhaus Orchestra

This week saw the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig out on the road again, this time bringing Christmas cheer to cities across western Germany.

The orchestra collaborated with the Thomanerchor Leipzig on Johann Sebastian Bach's Weihnachtsoratorium BWV 248 (Cantatas 1 to 3 and 6) as they traveled between the cities of Essen, Frankfurt, Dortmund, and Baden-Baden to bring Christmas cheer to symphony lovers.

Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig embarks on its 2011 fall tours with DHL at its side

The Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig launched its first fall tour of the year last week with a concert in Bonn, Germany.

Gewandhaus, one of the world's oldest symphony orchestras, played Beethoven's Coriolanus Overture, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's “Reformation Symphony,” and – featuring world-famous Portuguese pianist Maria João Pires – Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto.

DHL official logistics partner of the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig

DHL will once again be in charge of the safe and smooth transportation of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra's more than 100 musical instruments during the orchestra's concert tours to Asia and across Europe in 2011. The cargo is worth several million Euros, consists of sensitive and unique instruments.
