Telefónica clinches Volvo Ocean Race Leg 1 victory after three weeks at sea

The first of the nine legs at the Volvo Ocean Race has a winner. 21 days, 5 hours, 14 minutes and 25 seconds after they left Alicante, Spain on November 5, Team Telefónica sailed into Table Bay in Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday.

The Spanish team Telefónica sailed a near-perfect race and now has a total of 31 points at the top of the scoreboard. CAMPER, which followed Telefónica into Cape Town on Sunday, came in second, and has 29 points. Groupama, the final boat, sailed through the finish line on Tuesday evening, adding 20 points for a total of 22.

DHL presents 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Trophy to Mark Webber

At a special handover ceremony in Sao Paolo on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix, DHL honored the Red Bull driver for racing the most Fastest Laps in the 2011 season.

Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber receives the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award from Joakim Thrane, DHL Express Brazil Country Manager, Christian Danner, DHL F1 Expert and former Formula 1 driver.

Two weeks ago at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, Red Bull Racing-Renault driver Mark Webber left no doubt that he was consistently the fastest man on the racetrack in the 2011 Formula 1TM season. This weekend in Sao Paolo, on the eve of the Brazilian Grand Prix, DHL presented the Australian with the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award.

Red Bull Racing scores a hat trick

Mark Webber grabs his sixth Fastest Lap of the season and with it the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap Award

 

Red Bull Racing driver Mark Webber races to his 6th Fastest Lap in Abu Dhabi.

 

With the 2011 Drivers’ World Championship and the 2011 Constructors’ Championship firmly in grip, team Red Bull Racing scored a hat trick on Sunday at the 2011 Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix when driver Mark Webber grabbed his sixth Fastest Lap of the year and with it the 2011 DHL Fastest Lap trophy.
